Sharing BalletBat memories at East Quay
Billy Malone and I, corresponded during the Covid pandemic. ‘Batman 1989’ was very much the topic and it was a real thrill for me, to share my experiences of working on the film.
Jim Gladman, Carl Newman, and Billy Malone
There were parallels, as Billy’s Dad had worked as a cameraman, on many movies and had also worked, with 2nd Unit Director Peter MacDonald, numerous times. Peter and I worked together on Batman.
There was also the love of music, drummers, art and other classic films that we greatly admired.
Fast forward, to Thursday 20th March 2025 and I get the most fantastic opportunity, courtesy of Billy and East Quay.
East Quay, is set beside the unique harbour of Watchet and Somerset coastline. It has galleries, artist studios, a restaurant and a choice of five pods to stay in.
Billy would host the screening, of Tim Burton’s seminal Batman Movie and I would give an introduction beforehand, a ‘Q & A’ session, and then some signing afterwards. I certainly came prepared with my beautifully designed banner and a swag of merchandise.
This was a more intimate screening, held in the restaurant area and I was delighted to know, that my talk had elevated the evening. I mingled and talked with various people and felt touched by the positivity, warmth and praise showed to me. I was delighted to sign posters, comic books, photographs, and other memorabilia.
Billy and East Quay gave me the opportunity to experience two nights in two different pods. The food was outstanding and staying in Somerset, also allowed me to venture into Glastonbury and Wells.
It was a memorable experience in more ways than one!
